Apex Life Sciences has an immediate Direct hire opportunity for a Transportation manager. 

Summary:  Directs and coordinates activities of transportation department to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities, freight, and personnel by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create dispatch sheet, make customer’s delivery appointments, procure trucks, and communicate with trucking company for on time delivery.  Oversee and administer driver electronic logs.
  • Communicates company policies, procedures changes, and requirements with trucking companies.  Oversee and assign driver and carrier assignments.
  • Monitor and track status of delivery.  Monitor load temperatures and weight of trucks for delivery.
  • Review bills of lading for product; ensure freight costs are applied and entered.  Review invoices and code to the general ledger.
  • Perform data entry of all changes and adjustments to pricing and freight.
  • Track carrier performance and on time delivery rate.  Generate weekly carrier performance report for the Department Manager.  Oversee preparation of weekly logistics reports for management.
  • Attend meetings with operations, logistics teams and safety teams as needed.
  • Assist customer service staff members with changes on orders to ensure proper/on time delivery.
  • Communicate internally on any trucking related issues.
  • Assist Department Manager in the basic negotiation and rate comparison for US trucking companies for outbound freight.
  • Develop and conduct effective training programs, to include but not limited to, safety.
  • Oversee employees within the transportation department.  Cover for other transportation team members as needed.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

  • 2-3 years’ shipping and receiving experience, 3-5 years’ experience in transportation required. 
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university preferred.
  • Cross trained in the various functions of the Quality Assurance department and knowledgeable on the QA standard operating procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety programs (HACCP, GMPs, Sanitation, Pest Control, Safe Quality Food (SQF), and Organic Guidelines preferred.
