Toxicology Specialist (Microbiology, Product Safety, Cosmetics, Skincare)

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s (BS/MS) degree in Microbiology
  • 1-3 years of experience in the Contract Manufacturing industry, consumer products industry, contract research organizations, raw material, or other relevant experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microbiology (e.g. aseptic techniques, media preparation, culture maintenance, and gram-stain) required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interested in applying knowledge to practical Cosmetic/ Personal Care projects
  • Passion for Personal Care Products, safety and quality testing for skincare products
  • Strong organizational/ Project Management skills
  • Good team player, customer-orientated, detail-oriented for reports, and results-oriented
  • Interested in Process Development/ Process Improvement
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Must be computer savvy to generate reports
  • Knowledge of COPTIS and MAPICS preferred but not required

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with testing program management including tracking studies, sample management, invoice management, report archiving
  • Primary support for Microbiological testing operation:
  • Familiarity with cosmetic formulation review/analysis to determine microbiological testing, toxicology, toxicity testing, safety and quality needs
  • Microbiological support may include bioburden testing, waste sterilization, preservative challenge, and determination of period after opening (familiarity with these studies required)
  • Ability to review microbiological reports from a scientific standpoint
  • Familiarity with water activity testing, including operation of laboratory instruments
  • Secondary support with sample management, invoice management, tracking studies and report archiving for other study types:
  • Chemical testing (e.g., heavy metals)
  • Toxicological testing (e.g., skin/eye irritation, sensitization)
  • Assist with tracking and prioritizing projects
  • Develop additional databases and organize information, as needed
