Lab Technician, Support Operations

Summary

The Lab Technician participates in the day to day operation of cGMP compliant Fill Finish & Support Operations Manufacturing.  Responsibilities include the preparation and autoclaving of components, tubing, supplies, etc. and performs cleaning of equipment and rooms for GMP operations. In addition, they may also perform filling, stoppering, crimping, inspection, labeling, packaging and buffer preparations in a cleanroom facility.  The incumbent will also perform equipment preventative maintenance, and may operate equipment such as a pH meter, integrity tester, autoclave, pumps, pipettors, etc.  In addition, they may assist department staff with other operational duties.  Incumbent must perform duties by exactly following written procedures and document work performed including equipment and material used. 

Duties

  • Prepare and process components and materials for sterilization.  Operate autoclave to sterilize these components.  Clean production cleanrooms and remove waste materials. Order and transfer from the warehouse all materials required for processes, ensure availability of same. (50%)
  • Perform equipment function checks, preventive maintenance and calibration, as required by written procedures.  Record required documentation for all production and operational work and equipment used contemporaneously.  Operate other equipment during processing including scales and balances, centrifuge, biosafety cabinet, laminar flow workstation, fill machine, and various pipetting instruments.  (25%)
  • Perform bioprocess container, syringe, cryovial or glass vial filling and / or buffer and solution processing.  Prepare process buffers accurately and under aseptic conditions. Participate in aseptic process simulations including operator qualification of aseptic techniques. (20%)

Note:  Most of the above activities are performed while wearing sterile gowning and working within a classified clean room.

Qualifications

A high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience or exempt by Manager approval.

Preferred Qualifications

At least six months biopharmaceutical processing experience.  At least six months working in a cGMP compliant environment.  Experience with sterile gowning for aseptic processing.  Work experience demonstrating ability to exactly follow written procedures in English and to legibly document same.  Computer experience with Word, Outlook
