East Valley specialty manufacturer is seeking an experienced Supplier Development Engineer I to start immediately. 

The Supplier Development Engineer I provides key expertise in identifying, selecting, evaluating and managing component and assembly suppliers. Ensures the supply base understands and is in compliance with supplier requirements.  Assists in creating long term relationships with suppliers that lead to quality, effective process, on-time delivery and cost improvements.  Manages needs in response to product changes and new product development ensuring customer compliance.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts in creating synergies in supplier development and qualification with our multiple factories located around the world.
  • Direct the necessary collaboration between the supplier and Integrated Product Team (IPT) to support successful new product development launches.
  • Perform quality system and process audits on new potential suppliers and make recommendations for sourcing and development needs.
  • Promote and evaluate the use of statistical methods, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques at suppliers.
  • Design the appropriate supplier metrics to support company financial and strategic initiatives.
  • Implement and manage supplier scorecard and performance.
  • Propagate best practices through the supply chain to eliminate waste.
  • Participate in Management Quality Reviews with poorly performing suppliers and assist in the development of supplier recovery plans for chronic problem suppliers.
  • Lead and facilitate cost reduction opportunities that support company operating plans and initiatives. 
  • Provide guidance to other SDE's.

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS Degree in Engineering or other related discipline. 
  • At least 1 year minimum experience working as a Supplier Development Engineer or in a related capacity in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Strong working knowledge and application of GD&T, PPAP, APQP and statistical methods is highly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes i.e. metal forming, plastic forming and injection molding is a plus.


  • The individual must be able to work effectively and professionally with all levels of employees and management in a team oriented environment. 
  • Experience in leading cross functional and multi-company teams. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) as well as excellent problem solving, communication, motivational and organizational skills. 
  • Project management skills are required.
  • This position requires the ability to read and understand specifications and drawings thoroughly. 
  • The individual must be able to understand all policies, procedures, instructions, rules and regulations associated with this position which are written in English. 
  • In addition, the individual must be able to appropriately respond to these and, where needed, provide reports, presentations, information and communications in English. 
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, or weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Up to 50% travel both domestically and international.
