Job Description

Scope of Position: 
Position will serve as a mechanical technician resource for Division Engineering based in either Midland, NC facility for initial assignment, but may later include assignments to Wilmington, NC or Hainan, China facilities. Main responsibility is to function as mechanical technician support for existing glass processing automation equipment, while supporting installation of new equipment as a secondary responsibility. 

Job functions include: 
• Provide hands-on 2nd and 3rd level mechanical and process troubleshooting support for existing production equipment. Some off-hours support may be required. 
• Perform maintenance tasks on bearings, pneumatic slides, etc. such as component replacement, alignment, or inspection 
• Specify components (i.e. piping, fittings, cylinders, etc.) and integrate into existing mechanical system 
• Identify vendors, obtain quotes and order components 
• Perform process start-up support, design, and documentation of Mechanical and Electrical Systems for new or modified production equipment. 
• Revise equipment drawings 
• Update equipment documentation as needed 
• Oversee work completed by contract trades during all aspects of equipment installation and conversion. 
• Debug and resolve issues on system commissioning 
• work closely with cross functional engineering team including IT, process, mechanical and electrical engineers 

Travel Requirements: Initial assignment requires no travel, but future assignments could result in 25-40% travel to Wilmington, NC or Hainan, China facilities. 

Required Education: 
• AAS in Mechanical Engineering Technology or higher (BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology is acceptable, but this is a technician level role) 

Required Years and Area of Experience: 2+ Manufacturing Industry 

Required Skills: 
• Hands-on experience with mechanical system troubleshooting, preferably in an industrial setting. 
• Hands-on experience with mechanical system installation and maintenance procedures, preferably in an industrial setting. 
• Ability to understand mechanical drawings include pneumatic schematics 
• Ability to work with machine shops/vendors to complete part procurement 
• Experience managing mechanics/electricians for equipment assembly and installation 
• Familiarity with LO/TO safety requirements and OSHA standards 
• Familiarity with MS Office – Word, Outlook, Excel 

Desired Skills: 
• AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor/Vault experience. 
• Experienced in electrical system troubleshooting including low and medium voltage systems, PLCs, temperature controls safety systems, etc 
• Working knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel, Pi and Access

• Experience working in a manufacturing floor or construction environment, with a strong focus on job site safety. Proactive regarding safety. Seeks to identify and correct potential safety or environmental issues before they occur.
