Job Description


Provide creative problem solving and technical leadership necessary to generate and implement Food Science, Engineering, or Technology based solutions. Drive team towards capability of new production processes, optimization of existing production processes, significant cost savings and/or improved rates of first time right quality.


  1. Obey GMP’s and PPE’s for production areas.


  1. Develop, design, and improve manufacturing processes.
  2. Develop processing procedures and specifications, and assisting in recommend formulation changes as necessary, for new and existing products that meet customer requirements while optimizing quality, food safety and cost requirements.
  3. Conduct and participate in Kaizen events driving Continuous Improvement.
  4. Prepare prototypes and scale up products and processes using lab, pilot, and manufacturing facilities and equipment as required.
  5. Effectively lead and/or participate in cross-functional teams.
  6. Identify high impact cost savings opportunities within the manufacturing plant and complete projects to capture these savings.
  7. Utilize problem solving methodologies to deliver the required outcomes such as A3.
  8. Select appropriate methods, tests and procedures for product evaluation, including analytical, physical, and sensory.  Submit, review and interpret analysis by third parties.
  9. Solve process design and performance challenges using critical, independent thinking, and knowledge of ingredient/process functionality and technology.
  10. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including laboratory notebooks and computer databases, so that processes are repeatable and reproducible.
  11. Provides a safe work environment in which the highest quality product is delivered in a timely cost effective manner.

  1. Strong experimental and critical problem solving skills, including the ability to consistently adhere to specific procedures and make and record observations without bias
  2. Demonstrated ability to carry out several complex projects simultaneously.
  3. Proficient in standard office software applications, as well as statistical analysis and modeling software.
  4. Proficient in utilizing statistics and design of experiment methodologies.
  5. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  7. Ability and desire to work with minimal supervision and in a high performing team environment.
  8. Ability to lead cross functional teams.
  9. Hands-on troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  10. Passion for driving to root cause problem identification and then identifying/executing appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  11. Working knowledge of basic Thermal Processing principles and requirements.


Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science-related field; with a minimum of seven years experience and proven track record of results as a Project/Process Engineer. Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience is preferred. Previous food manufacturing experience is also preferred. Strong statistical/DOE experience is required.
