Water Quality Chemist (Drinking and Waste, EPA, ICP, GC, TOC, IC) 


As part of the client - the Innovation, Development, and Advanced Services (IDEAS) Center, focusing on research and development of new and innovative water/wastewater treatment solutions, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill their Senior Project Chemist position. Under the direction of the IDEAS Laboratory Manager and the Principal Project Chemist, the qualified applicant will provide functional and technical assistance in the laboratory including performing chemical and biological analyses, conducting research both in the laboratory and field, set up and execution of sampling and testing programs, applies knowledge of principles and practices of chemistry, biology, microbiology and mathematics required in an analytical laboratory setting, use standard good laboratory practices and QA/QC procedures, and other applicable standards to collect and analyze samples of water, wastewater, and industrial process water for a variety of environmental test conditions.


  • Performance of routine physical and chemical analyses of water and wastewater samples according to documented requirements and in accordance with established procedures;
  • Operation of laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation including; UV/VIS, ICP, ICP/MS, TOC, GC, GC/MS, IC, Lachat Flow Analyzer, and AFS;
  • Conduct treatability studies to support both internal and external clients;
  • Monitoring of laboratory supplies and maintenance of all laboratory equipment;
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment;
  • Sample shipping and receiving; storing in accordance with established procedures;
  • Performance of jar test assays to determine chemical treatment criteria;
  • Assist in the preparation and writing of technical papers and reports;

  • Maintain all laboratory operations in accordance to the quality assurance plan;
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment.


  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry preferred; chemical engineering, biology, or environmental science acceptable;
  • Five years plus experience in a process chemistry or environmental laboratory setting; water and wastewater treatment experience preferred;
  • Technical understanding & working knowledge of applicable instrumentation & Standard EPA methodologies related to water and wastewater treatment;
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written communication, inclusive of working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
