Sensory Kitchen Technician

The Kitchen Technician is responsible for assisting the Sensory Panel Assistant in all aspects of running MMR’s NY Sensory Panel. The consensus panels train and test on food, beverage, and household products.

Hours of Work: 12 hours per week, 11am-3pm, Tuesday to Thursday. Flexibility required.

Primary Responsibility:  Supports sensory projects, preparation, execution, and cleanup of kitchen and back of house needs.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for test/training samples: Storage and serving (temperature, labeling, logging)
  • Responsible for consistency within and between relevant studies (product preparation, container types)
    • Sourcing products from local shops when required
  • Sensory references for panel training:
    • Source
    • Prepare and label for relevant sessions
    • Log references (brand, location sourced)
    • Properly store and track, renew as necessary
  • Test execution
    • Product coding and rotation
    • Temperature control of products
    • Time keeping of test and samples served
    • Proper handling of products, following specific protocols
    • Test/training materials for panel training and profiling
  • Manage preparation of reference/recalibration materials for the panel, including, but not limited to basic taste solutions and references
  • Daily Panel Maintenance ensuring compliance with basic food hygiene standards
    • Pre-panel session (set up panel working area)
    • Post-panel session (proper product and container disposal and recycling, cleaning and clearing all working areas)
    • Assist with inventory. Must be able to lift up to 20lbs, and stand for extended periods of time.
