Job Description

The Senior Thermal Engineer will collaborate with the Sales team to manage customer relationships through the sales cycle and will be responsible for gathering testing requirements and conducting thermal tests according to customer and industry standards. The Engineer will ensure that all testing procedures are up to both end client and industry standards.  

This position reports to the Director of R&D, and is based at client Headquarters in Richmond, VA. Compensation and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience level.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • With sales team, work directly with customers to determine testing requirements and scope of work.
  • Digest test requirements into actionable testing plan/protocol.
  • Execute testing protocols.
  • Generate reports summarizing test findings/results.
  • Interact with customers to share test results, provide recommendations, etc.
  • Update testing SOPs as needed.
  • Ensure testing environment and tools are neat, orderly and well-maintained.

Experience: 

  • 3+ years in thermal testing lab (packaging related testing).
  • 1+ year(s) in customer facing role.

Education and Certifications: 

  • 4-year college education (Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering or equivalent experience).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of ISTA Standard 20 protocol, ISTA 7D/E testing.
  • Knowledge of basic operation of thermal environmental testing equipment (thermocouples, environmental chambers, etc.) .
  • ISTA Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP), strongly preferred.
  • ISTA Certified Thermal Professional (CTP), strongly preferred.
  • Transform customer testing requirements into an executable testing plan compliant with industry, customer, and client standards.
  • Analyze data sets and distill data into concrete conclusions.
  • Interpersonal skills when interacting with customers.
