Job Description

Apex Life Sciences is seeking a Scientist with an emphasis on Bacteriology and Molecular biology for a Research role in a top pharmaceutical R&D organization focused on projects targeting a number of bacterial pathogens causing important human diseases. 


  • Demonstrate technical excellence in a variety of microbiological and molecular biology techniques for investigating bacterial pathogens and potential antigens for inclusion in novel vaccines
  • Experienced in recombinant DNA techniques and expression of recombinant proteins in various systems including virus, yeast, bacterial, mammalian
  • Developing and implementing in vitro assays for testing and characterizing vaccine candidates by ELISA & cell-based assays
  • Experienced with culturing, manipulation and characterization of a range of BSL2 bacteria
  • Ensure safe lab practices and BSL requirements while working with live microbes and microbial products
  • Learn the field of study through reading scientific literature
  • Understand the overall project goals and ensure completion of activities within the overall project goal timelines
  • Willingness to share information and expertise to enhance overall performance of the team
  • Maintain and update electronic laboratory notebooks according to QA requirements
  • Participate in lab and equipment maintenance, and orders lab supplies
  • Attend group meetings and present data
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Master’s Degree required; Ph.D preferred.
  • Hands-on expertise in a variety of microbiological techniques for culturing and manipulating bacterial pathogens, proficiency in state-of-the-art molecular methodologies and experience with protein expression and isolation, western-blot and ELISA, as well as mammalian cell culture required
  • This position will require the candidate to spend a majority of their time pursuing lab-based activities
  • Ability to work under supervision or independently, and in a productive team environment generating high quality research and on time delivery of project goals
  • Ability to plan individual workload to ensure execution and delivery of departmental objectives, as well as present findings at project team meetings.
  • Ability to learn scientific principles and concepts
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication with proven skills in written and oral communication 
  • Ability to carry out experiments from verbal or written instructions
  • Keep up to date records and document all research findings
  • Computer literate a must
  • Good knowledge of appropriate bio-safety practices (BSL2).
