Job Description

Apex Life Sciences is seeking a SAS Programmer to provide programming support to development and clinical research projects for a large Biopharmaceutical company.


  • Under general guidance, designs, develops, evaluates and modifies Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) programs to analyze and evaluate clinical data. Assesses data accuracy and consistency.
  • Programs using SAS for statistical analysis and transfers of files or data to and from other databases, including those belonging to external partners.
  • Develops data listings and other reports necessary for clinical studies and study reports.
  • Applies knowledge and skills, may act as study programmer on project team(s). Consults in the design and development of clinical trials, protocols and case report forms.
  • Validates, documents and archives single-use programs under proper guidance. May validate and document SAS macro library.
  • Tests, documents and integrates software tools into programming procedures.
  • Advises non-technical personnel on data retrieval and browsing of databases.
  • May establish and work with individuals or teams outside of company.
  • Interacts with research personnel to ascertain needs and develops appropriate solutions.
  • Writes statistical reports for use by internal and external customers.
  • Follows appropriate guidelines and procedures provided by management positions.
  • Uses discretion and independent judgment to consider and determine appropriate solutions/actions to a range of problems.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field required; MS or Ph.D in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience as a statistical programmer using SAS in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics or medical device environment desired
  • Familiarity with common statistical analyses.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS macros, and SAS/GRAP
  • Preferred: R, Stata, or other additional programming skills.
  • SAS 9 certification (advanced or clinical trials preferred) 
  • Experience in supporting regulatory submissions
  • Knowledge of statistical methods for categorical data analysis
  • Experience in supporting clinical trials
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and improve on existing processes
