Job Scope & Purpose:

Our Lexington based client is seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous individual to join our Research team as an RNA Analytical Scientist. The incumbent will report to the Director of Analytical Research and be an integral part of the discovery and analytical teams.   The position will focus on working with current and developing novel analytical methods for our mRNA drug substances.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive analytical development to fully characterize target mRNA molecules using current and novel methods

  • Independently design and execute decision-quality research to optimize mRNA analytical pipelines

  • Miniaturize and expand high-throughput analytical mRNA methods

  • Collaborate to develop analytical methods for lead programs and discovery projects with focus on protein quantification, enzyme activity, and protein kinetics

  • Support/manage external relationships with partners & CROs with focusing on analytical needs assessments, assay development, technology transfer and troubleshooting support for efficient completion of qualification/validation of all necessary assays

  • Build upon group’s analytical instrumentation expertise and provide analytical insight across disciplines for MRT platform in a collaborative effort

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for clear communication of scientific findings across interdisciplinary teams

Primary Job Requirements:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a related field (e.g. cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical or biomedical engineering, biotechnology)

  • 8+ years (M.S.) or 1-3 years (Ph.D) of pharmaceutical/biotech experience

  • Analytical expertise (methods, assay development, QC, troubleshooting) around RNA therapeutics (e.g. mRNA, RNAi, gene editing) required

  • Deep experience in liquid chromatography (including HPLC, UPLC, AKTA) & mass spectroscopy, ideally LC-MS

  • Hands-on experience with isolation, characterization, quantification and handling of synthetic RNA required (preference for mRNA experience)

  • Success in miniaturizing and automating high-throughput analysis preferred

  • Ability to develop RNA sample prep and analytical methods for biological samples to support programs

  • Managing research and transferring technology to external providers and partners.  Sourcing external providers also desired.

  • Demonstrated track-record of progressing multiple projects forward under tight timelines

  • Desire to work in a team-first, fast-paced environment, learn new skills, and to efficiently solve problems

  • Attention to detail with strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills
