JOB TITLE: Research Associate

COMPANY

Developing materials for the ideal energy storage device with energy density at least three times that of the best-in-class lithium ion batteries

Responsibilities and Duties

This is an entry level synthetic chemistry role reporting to the project manager. Responsibilities include:

  • Chemical synthesis, purification, and characterization of materials, intermediates, and precursors.
  • Learning to conduct syntheses on kilogram scale, using proportionally larger equipment.
  • Work with the synthetic chemistry group to design viable synthetic paths and improve current synthetic processes.
  • Offer suggestions to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Request appropriate starting material, equipment, and supplies to accelerate the project’s progress.
  • Provide regular progress updates and reports as required.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe workspace and lab.
  • Contribute to a positive atmosphere in the lab and throughout the company.
  • Able to stand for several hours and lift up to 50lbs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • BS/BA degree in Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Familiarity with chemical synthesis and purification techniques.
  • An introductory knowledge of common characterization techniques including, thin layer chromatography, infrared, UV/vis, and NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
  • Experience executing standard operating procedures precisely with integrity.
  • Experience executing and documenting experimental plans and results; communicating findings with experimental lead.
  • Excellent record keeping, time management, and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Chemdraw.
