Job Description

Apex Life Sciences is seeking a molecular biologist for a Research Associate II or III position to work in an R&D team focused on developing a single-molecule hybridization-based next generation sequencing (NGS) and genomics platform technology.  In this position, this person will work closely with the technical lead and fellow bench scientists and computational biologists to design, prepare, and test reagents and optimize workflows.

  • Design, carry out and interpret molecular biology experiments with limited supervision
  • Operate a Hamilton NIMBUS automated liquid-handling workstation
  • Operate multi-plex PCR and prototype instruments to collect data
  • Organize, manipulate and analyze data in Excel
  • Organize and communicate results to supervisor and R&D team verbally, graphically, and in writing
  • Spend ~80% of time and effort on lab-based benchwork
  • Assist in managing sample and reagent inventory
  • Work cooperatively in a product-oriented team environment
  • Deliver results under tight timelines
  • Write protocols and experimental summary reports associated with projects


  • B.S. in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or related field with 2-5 years of relevant laboratory experience, or M.S. with commensurate experience. 
  • 2-8 years experience performing molecular biology protocols including nucleic acid manipulation and characterization techniques
  • Familiarity with running automated scripts used to control laboratory instrumentation, particularly liquid-handling workstations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a project team
  • Preference for candidates with industrial experience in assay or product development
  • Proven ability to meet defined schedules and deadlines
