Our client, a leader in the pharmaceutical industry, is seeking a research associate. 


The Protein Homeostasis Thematic Center of Excellence (PH TCoE) is seeking an experienced scientist for a contract position within an exciting multi-disciplinary target discovery and mass spectrometry group. The successful candidate will have well-documented expertise in molecular cloning and cellular biology and biochemistry. The candidate will work collaboratively in dynamic laboratory that uses computation, cell-based models, protein biochemistry, and mass spectrometry to identify and characterize new targets for small molecule drug discovery. Our perfect candidate will exhibit excellent organization, creative scientific thinking, a great communicative attitude, and a love for the lab.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and conduct in vitro cell biology experiments using mammalian cell lines.
  •  Perform mechanism of action experiments with compounds and genetic manipulation.
  •  Perform DNA/RNA/Protein analyses including qPCR, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and mass spectrometry as necessary for each experiment.
  • Develop and optimize new assays for various projects.
  • Plasmid cloning: Gateway & Restriction cloning, Mutagenesis, PCR.
  • Help set up a proteomics sample preparation workflow and create new technologies.
  • Prompt notebook documentation. Present and publish findings.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • MUST HAVE: Highly experienced in molecular biology and plasmid cloning. 
  • MUST HAVE: Excellent mammalian cell culture technique.
  • MUST HAVE: Fluorescent microscopy, qPCR, Westerns, cell proliferation assays, shRNA, CRISPR.
  • Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline with at least 4 years work experience or Masters degree with at least 2 years work experience. Manager not interested in PhD candidates.
  • Working knowledge of proteomic sample preparation & immunoprecipitation is desired.
  • Experience using cancer cell models is desired.
  • Data analysis and data handling skills: Must be fluent using Windows PC & Excel. Knowledge of Python, R, Knime, or Vortex is a plus.
  • Previous industrial or academic lab experience in gene function studies. 
  • Excellent organization and communication.
  • Excitement for scientific discovery and a positive attitude.
