Regional Laboratory Manager

Apex Life Sciences is searching for a Regional Laboratory Manager for a busy diagnostic laboratory in Mississauga, ON. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits that will be responsible for overseeing several laboratories in Ontario and Alberta. This position works a day schedule, working Monday to Friday from 5AM – 1:30PM. This position will have several direct reports and will be responsible for developing budgets, policies, procedures and achieving revenue goals.

Candidates with previous supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory are an asset. Previous experience in the areas of Processing, Hematology, Serology, Parasitology, Urinalysis and Clinical Chemistry testing is required.


  • Manages lab staff, assigns work and monitors performance. Establishes performance metrics for laboratory staff. Plans and organizes activities of the laboratory.
  • Responsible for managing day-today activities of the lab.
  • Achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Report test results to clients within established timelines.
  • Client interaction.
  • Responsible for hiring, firing, scheduling and training of staff.
  • Develops laboratory budgets, policies and procedures.
  • Plan and leads maintenance of lab equipment, resolves issues pertaining to lab functionality.
  • Provides feedback to various internal groups to improve client satisfaction.
  • Participates in business management reviews pertaining to lab operations (performance, turnaround time, etc.)
  • Participates in process improvements.
  • Ensures quality of testing under QA guidelines.
  • Assist with bench testing duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • BSc in Biology or Medical Sciences OR MLT
  • 5+ years of clinical laboratory experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in the areas of Processing, Hematology, Serology, Parasitology, Urinalysis and Clinical Chemistry
  • Experience in a high-volume testing environment and with lab operations, testing and services as well as reading and releasing results.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Team player, excellent communication skills, proficient with MS Office and databases.
  • Time management skills, leadership skills.
