POSITION SUMMARY:

The (R&D) Chemist is responsible for executing R&D Projects. This person conducts experiments in a safely manner, gathers data, evacuates and documents it. Utilizes a variety of laboratory equipment. Work on developing solutions and providing better understanding of investigated area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gathers & evaluates data, withdraws conclusions and documents findings in a form of a report and in a laboratory notebook
  • Explores Liquid Color Research and Development avenues by experimental work and independent research
  • Look for multiple ways to investigate a problem by suggesting alternative products and services
  • Shares findings with colleagues across all department
  • Pursues independent research to obtain resolution to technical problems
  • Continuously expands knowledge of colorants, additives, carriers, resins plastic processes and techniques
  • Demonstrates in depth familiarity of laboratory equipment including, but not limited to spectrophotometers, color matching software, FTIR, UVVIS, weathermen, microscopes, centrifuge, melt indexer, weighing scales, analytical balances, presses, roll mills, injection molding machines
  • Demonstrates flexibility to handle multiple projects and requests
  • Utilizes spectrophotometer in color matching, formulation adjustments, and color difference determination
  • Works on color formulations development, improvement to prepare the best possible sample
  • Maintains required logs, data, records and reports pertinent to commercial design lab, both manual and computer based
  • Assists in color matching department if needed
  • Understands QC process and assists quality control in off-color production revisions and corrections if needed
  • Supports ISO required tasks and required documentation

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Color matches and produces concentrate samples
  • Knows QC protocol and supports QC
  • Actively participates in quality programs and training

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors Degree is preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Surfactant or polymer chemistry background desired
  • Understanding of analytical methods desired
  • Color matching background desired
  • The ability to be flexible and work in a team oriented environment.
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office, spreadsheets and databases
  • Must possess the ability to visually differentiate between colors that are very close in hue; must pass color blindness and color hue test (Munsell)
  • Individual must possess creative, analytical, problem solving skills and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple priorities
