Job Description


Apex Life Sciences is looking for a Raw Materials Chemist to work at a personal care company in the Thousand Oaks area! 

Description:

  • Performing chemistry laboratory testing, organoleptic analysis, and disposition of raw materials, production intermediates, bulk compounds and finished products in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and internal standards for quality (SOPs).
  • Responsible for generating laboratory cGMP documentation used to maintain data integrity. When needed the individual takes timely and effective actions for out of specification (OOS) results, non-conformances (NC), or deviations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform analytical chemical testing and organoleptic analysis of raw materials, production intermediates, final bulk materials, finished products, and cleaning verification samples.
  • Perform Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Water Conductivity, pH, Viscosity, Specific Gravity/Density, wet chemistry and other routine analysis with minimal direction.
  • Initiate and draft Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR) when Out-Of- Specification (OOS) values are observed or generated. Carry out timely LIR and OOS Investigations and Reporting.
  • Communicate with laboratory personnel and management on potential gaps or issues when identified.
  • Conforms to and maintain laboratory systems, equipment (Chemicals, Reagents, Standards, Water Baths, pH Meters), control records, laboratory notebooks, laboratory cleanliness, per the applicable SOPs, cGLP, and cGMP practices.
  • Follow safety guidance within the laboratory per EH&S standards and use proper PPE.
  • Maintain training record binder to current status in an organized manner.
  • Elevate and communicate significant issues to laboratory management.
  • Prepare reports, updates, and assessments to laboratory management.
  • Follow continuous improvement practices and participated in cross-functional teams, which impact production, increase efficiency, solve problems, generate cost savings and improve quality.
  • Initiate quality system improvements
  • Complies with and enforce policies, procedures, and quality standards, as well as safety and environmental regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by laboratory management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in sciences required
  • 3+ years of experience handling raw materials
  • Experience in personal care a plus
