Quality Systems Manager

QA / Regulatory Department

Primary Job Functions

  • Reviews, maintains, and oversees implementation of the Food Safety Plans and supporting Prerequisite Programs across all US manufacturing sites.
  • Drafts required policies at both a US Quality Assurance level as well as a local Quality level in support of the local quality and food safety programs
  • Maintain the Document Control and Records Management program for all quality and food safety programs
  • Coordinate, prepare for, and conduct customer audits of quality and food safety
  • Implement Internal Audit Program to analyze processes and lead the continuous improvement program of the current SQF certification for US Sites
  • Implementation and management of US manufacturing facilities cGMP and GLP programs to support production of excipient flavors and active pharmaceutical ingredients to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Responsible for product quality and food safety subjects in the training program in all areas and functions
  • Responsible for implementation and management of  document control system for quality and food safety related policies and procedures for all US businesses
  • Manage product quality and food safety information sent directly to the customers
  • Support the supplier approval program as the quality and food safety representative
  • Ensure work teams are motivated to improve the efficiency of their current duties and have clearly identified goals as well as understanding what they must accomplish to advance the company mission and objectives
  • Enforce company personnel, operational and safety policies and procedures as they relate to all employees


Decision Making Responsibility/Authority:

  • Oversee all aspects of the quality and food safety process for the US business and ensure compliance
  • Stop non-compliant processes
  • Approve exceptional releases
  • Approve non-conformances
  • Manage incidents and crises
  • Act as a delegate in the absence of the Director of Quality


Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position reports to the Director of Quality.  This position will not have direct reports but will be largely required to lead and influence peer positions and other members of leadership.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Previous related experience whether acquired from outside or from within the company, a person should have to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job:
  • Demonstrable ability to lead implementation and management of product quality and food safety programs.
  • Direct experience in the successful implementation and/or management of cGMP, HACCP, PRP’s, and related programs in flavor, food, or food ingredient companies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have an understanding of Global and US Food Regulations
  • Effective communication and presentation skills with ALL levels of the organization + external customers.
  • Direct experience in training ALL levels of the organization in Quality and food safety programs and their requirements.

Special knowledge, skills, or training may be required to perform the job:

  • Familiarity with the requirements Global Food Safety Initiative e.g. Safe Quality Food certification.
  • Able to lead implementation and processes to achieve and maintain certifications
  • Familiarity with the requirements of FSMA, USDSA, cGMP, HACCP, Prerequisite Programs
  • Familiarity with requirements of Quality certifications (ISO 9000, Kosher, Halal, Organic, etc.)

Education and Experience (minimum requirements/equivalent): 

  • BA/BS, MS Degree, Chemical, Science or Food Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years combined experience, preferably in a Manager level role, in direct oversight or implementation of food safety and quality systems within the chemical, flavor, food and/or food ingredient industries.
  • Financial Responsibility/Authorization Level
