Job Description

Apex Life Sciences is looking for a QA Technician for a seafood production facility in Sumner, Washington. Please see below and apply if interested! 


  • Monitor HACCP and communicate all unusual occurrences, found in the course of doing so, to the QA Manager shift supervisor as appropriate.
  • Monitor product quality attributes (color amount and hue, piece dimensions and count, slitter setting and etc.) as stated in the product specification, and assist to update and improve the quality specifications per item.
  • Monitor status of temperature log, changing in accordance with monitoring procedure and reporting all unusual occurrences.
  • Perform sanitation verification through visual inspections and use of ATP swabbing systems. Assist in the monitoring of environmental cleanliness with provided testing equipment.
  • Ensure allergen compliance with use of allergen testing swabs and adherence to scheduling.
  • Check and weigh seasonings by performing spot-check of prepared batches, and periodically overseeing Seasoning worker procedures in batch preparation.
  • Check entries on forms used to track ingredients and packaging.
  • Organoleptic testing, including taste, sight, smell and touch, is required to test raw material, in process product, and/or finished seafood product.
  • Facilitate communication between other departments and assist in the timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Monitor plant equipment and environment for cleanliness and conditions such as mold formation, over-greasing, signs of impending breakage and etc.
  • Monitor employee compliance with SSOPs current GMPs, Sanitary Standard Operating Procedures and any other prerequisite programs as they pertain to food safety and quality.
  • Work with receiving to check quality of incoming raw materials, such as surimi blocks and other seafood.  Inspect co-packed products (e.g. spreads) and returned products.
  • Ensure temperature compliance for process control.
  • Ensure process control through analytical tests and instrument verification.
  • Retrieve samples as directed for analytical and microbiological testing.
  • Assist in the evaluation of non-conforming products awaiting disposition.

Education/Experience/Special Skills/Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Food manufacturing experience a plus
  • Quality Assurance experience a plus
  • HACCP Certification


  • Able to read, write and understand English (Basic knowledge)
  • Basic computer skills / e-mail system (Microsoft Outlook)
  • Able to operate a digital camera
  • Able to use testing kits
  • Able to be flexible per job demands in a fast-paced working environment
