Manager, Quality Assurance– Frozen Food Manufacturing

Apex Life Sciences is searching for a Manager, Quality Assurance for a permanent position in the food industry. Our client is a manufacturer of frozen and ready-to-eat meals located in Vaughan, ON. This position is responsible for the administration and management of the quality assurance department as well as the development of HACCP and FSEP programs. This role would also act as the HACCP Coordinator and the SQF Practitioner. Candidates with experience in RTE Meat facilities are preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Development and maintenance of company food safety and quality programs (HACCP, FSEP, SQF, SOPs, Work Instructions).
  • Evaluating current programs for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain adherence to regulatory standards and liaise with CFIA inspectors.
  • Main point of contact for food safety and quality audits.
  • Provide management, guidance and training to the Quality Assurance team.
  • Budgetary responsibility for Quality related activities and projects.
  • Make hold and release decisions on non-conforming products.
  • Recall duties (HACCP Coordinator).
  • Adherence to SQF requirements (SQF Practitioner).
  • Support Operations with quality planning activities (sanitation support, program monitoring and writing, statistical analysis, inspection techniques, etc.)
  • Training of plant employees on Food Safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in a quality management role in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a meat facility – preference is ready-to-eat meat products.
  • Experience working with quality programs (HACCP, SQF, FSEP).
  • Previous managerial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, analytical, modeling & critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Tech savvy and excellent interpersonal skills
