Apex Life Sciences is looking for a Metrology Supervisor!

Job Summary    

The Metrology Supervisor will handle the day-to-day operations of the Metrology Team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervising/training of metrology personnel; prioritizing/coordinating calibration efforts; assisting in the development of equipment calibration methods; assisting Quality Assurance during client audits; training operations personnel, as needed; use of the on-site equipment asset database, to record and track equipment events; performing annual reviews.  Types of equipment and systems include ultra-low freezers, refrigerators and incubators. Also included are the calibrations of facility infrastructure such room temperature sensors and Building Management System.  The facility is operated in compliance with cGMP regulations, and this position includes responsibility for ensuring compliance with these regulations. 

Essential Duties And Responsibilities    

  • Daily supervision of metrology staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assigning daily tasks, inspecting work performed, reviewing documentation of work completed, developing training matrices and training of staff. Coordinate and schedule work with outside contractors when required.    35%
  • Write, revise and review applicable equipment Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), calibration work instructions, investigations and change controls. This includes evaluation of compliance to NIST / USP / ISO Calibration requirements. 25%
  • Review and approve all equipment calibration records, both internal and service contractor generated. Maintain equipment calibration records in the Calibration Database.  20%
  • Perform calibration of laboratory equipment following SOP’s.  Conduct calibration activities when requested in the biological production facility according to written procedures requiring being fully gowned (hood, facemask, jump suit, booties, gloves, safety glasses) in compliance with cGMP regulations.  15%

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises 3-5 employees


  • A high school diploma and a minimum of eight years of appropriate experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • 5 years’ work experience in a cGMP compliant production facility
  • Knowledge of Quality Management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and ANSI Z540)
  • Experience selecting instrumentation
  • Experience determining calibration range, tolerance, and frequency
  • Experience performing calibration investigations
  • Intermediate ability to troubleshoot repair, align and optimize precision equipment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and SAP.
