Microbiology Specialist

Irwindale, CA

Hours: Mon – Fri, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Duration: 90 days with potential to be extended for an additional 6 months based on the performance

Responsibilities:

  • Performs, interprets and evaluates chemical and microbiological analyses
  • Provides timely, highly accurate and precise chemical and microbiological analysis on raw materials, in process and package samples
  • Performs analysis ranging from basic wet chemistry, sampling and plating to advanced testing.
  • Participates in proficiency testing to ensure accuracy and precision of techniques, methodology or equipment such as BAPS
  • Performs, interprets and evaluates analytical chemistry and microbiological analyses.
  • Develops, trends and summarizes analytical and microbiological information
  • Develops, improves and implements quality data collection, analysis and reporting processes to provide the best information to the decision-making time and location in the process.
  • Utilize basic SPC tools to monitor trends and report any anomalies to the team.
  • Monitors, calibrates and maintains instruments.
  • Performs troubleshooting of instruments and methods.
  • Manages and orders laboratory supplies.
  • Monitors, calibrates and maintains instruments
  • Monitors laboratory supplies to keep up with the inventory

Skills and knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and techniques of microbiology and chemistry
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrument maintenance, calibration and trouble
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methods and computer skills
  • Thorough understanding of the brewing process and related sciences (Sensory, ESR, etc…)
  • Thorough knowledge of quality system
  • Advanced knowledge of continuous improvement concepts
  • Knowledge transfer and technical training skills across all levels of the organization
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills ? Strong organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving expertise
  • Demonstrated basic leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of microbiology and chemistry
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrument maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting
  • Must exhibit the flexibility needed to respond to frequent changes in production requirements
  • Must exhibit the ability to collect samples from a variety of environmental conditions in the manufacturing facility. 
  • Ability and willingness to work a rotating shift operation, weekends and holidays as necessary to support production requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field of study or extensive micro laboratory/brewing experience (Preferred degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cereal Science, Microbiology, Food Science, Agronomy, and Chemical Engineering).
  • Experience in microbiology or analytical laboratory required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in quality related processes
  • Demonstrated use of advanced problem solving tools
  • Entry level up to 2 years’ experience in quality related process.
