Job Description


  • Perform and manage all activities associated with the development of global clinical site budgets from study concept through to final protocol. Deliver clinical site budget proposals that are within industry’s Fair Market Value (FMV) benchmarks and that are approved by the governance committees. 

1. Support Business Analytics and Global Project Teams during protocol development by: 

  • Developing and preparing clinical site budgets using FMV benchmarking tools, performing due diligence and cost analysis. 
  • Record and track assumptions to reconcile and provide historical bench marking 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on best practice and industry approach on assessing costs 
  • Manage and monitor all changes to assumptions during protocol development, highlighting any cost implications and presenting cost-effective alternatives to support decision making. 

2. With Business Analytics colleague(s), take a proactive role within the global study start-up teams by: 

  • Roll out of clinical site country budgets and template preparation within start-up timelines 
  • Provide data to support the negotiation of costs for Global Site Contracts. 
  • Assist in identifying potential risks and create backup plans as necessary. 

3. Oversee the financial management of clinical site budgets by: 

  • Developing and improving budget management tools to support negotiation including monitoring actual spend vs. budget, liaise and influence CROs in the management of the same where appropriate 
  • Conducting financial and data analysis to support re-forecasting activities through life of study 

4. Working with peers and stakeholders: 

  • Maintain a web based repository of Per Subject Costs (PSC) deliverables (high level forecasting, baseline, tool kits, appendix A, etc.). 
  • Provide subject matter expertise regarding FMV benchmarking and budget related questions. 
  • Support department specific initiatives and projects as needed 
  • Work with supervisor and management to aid with decision making as required 
  • Contribute to new processes, identify new best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement 
  • Requires moderate supervision, assist with developing budgetary estimates and designing and revising supporting tools and templates as required 
  • Interact with internal and external customers 
  • Capitalize on strengths of relationships/networks to effectively work with cross functional teams and influence these teams as necessary 


  • BS degree in Life Sciences preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience
  • 4+ years in pharmaceutical industry
  • 2 years in site grant budget development supporting Phase I – IV clinical trial services 
  • Knowledge of clinical trial budgeting and forecasting.
  • Experience with financial benchmarking tools 
  • Problem solving skills in a team environment and a commitment to delivering quality in a deadline driven environment 
  • Ability to address and/or raise global issues from a program level to study level 
  • Proficient in drug development process 
  • Competent in computer skills (Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint), oral & written communication skills, as well as effective at multi-tasking 
  • Ability to establish team timelines & expectations 
  • Knowledge of GCP guidelines
