Maintenance Electrician 

Apex Life Sciences is seeking skilled Maintenance Technician with heavy electrical experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows all the company policies set in our Employee Handbook.
  • Is punctual, on time, and adheres to company attendance policies.
  • Follows all safety instructions and performs job function in adherence to safety instructions and rules.
  • Does not perform any job, duty, or functions employee has not been trained for.
  • Follows job specific instructions and rules.
  • Has functional literacy and oral communication skills in English for safety and following job specific instructions.
  • Has the ability to function under highly stressful conditions and interact cordially with co-workers to accomplish common tasks.
  • Must be capable of diagnosing equipment failures and machinery problems and take corrective action to restore it back to safe operating conditions as soon as possible.
  • Conducts the preventive maintenance system and directs its implementation. 
  • Must maintain work logs, work orders, PM sheets, and breakdown reports, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Demonstrates capabilities in handling complete factory startups as required; this includes equipment setup, boiler checks, cooling tower checks, ventilation system checks, and basic refrigeration system checks
  • Assist maintenance mechanics with installation, maintenance, and repairs to machinery, equipment, physical structures, plumbing, and simple electrical systems in the manufacturing facility and offices.
  • Occasionally works with outside vendors to complete maintenance activities.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork related to planned and unplanned work performed. 
  • Researches, specifies, and requests repair parts when they are needed and as necessary.
  • Understands the preventive maintenance system and its implementation. Reviews work logs, work orders, PM sheets, and breakdown reports, and takes corrective actions, as necessary.
  • Works closely with the Maintenance Manager, Department Lead and other Managers and Supervisors in order to eliminate downtime and to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Possesses the following electrical skills:
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify motor starters by class and size.
  • Effectively troubleshoot and understand all PLC components, including I/O boards and processors
  • Read and interpret ladder logic, relay diagrams, and symbols efficiently
  • Determine proper overload and fuse sizes for application
  • Demonstrate the ability to use a volt meter properly
  • Demonstrate the ability to use an amp probe and diagnose motor overload
  • Demonstrate the ability to wire start/stop 3-wire circuit controller
  • Read motor nameplates and wire motors with correct overload and heater selection
  • Connect simple inverters to motors
  • Configure inverters for the applications in which they are used
  • Demonstrate the proper way to check fuses using an ohmmeter
  • Demonstrate the proper way to check continuity of wires
  • Demonstrate the ability to read simple electrical schematics
  • Demonstrate the ability to determine whether windings on a motor are bad
  • Prepare and install electrical conduit, plugs, and other electrical components with wiring to current NEC/ANSI safety standards
  • Properly size electrical wiring based on voltage, amp draw, and length of cables
  • Understand and apply Arc Flash Safety
  • Specify and size control enclosures that are appropriate for the environments in which they are being installed.
  • Demonstrate proper labeling techniques for wires and components in electrical installations
  • Perform basic electrical soldering
  • Possesses the following mechanical skills:
  • Disassembles, reassembles, and rebuilds gearboxes, valves, cylinders, solenoid valves, pumps, and other factory-related equipment
  • Measure and determine types and sizes, and proper handling of bearings and to designate bearing numbers for placement of parts orders
  • Demonstrate the ability to adjust tracking of product conveyor belts
  • Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.



Education/Experience:

  • High School or Trade School graduate with a minimum of three years prior experience as an industrial maintenance electrician. 
  • Electrical Code Training
  • Certification and/or Trade School preferred.
  • Must be certified as an Industrial Light Vehicle Operator (Forklift, pickers, etc)

Physical Demands/Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. 
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 15 times/hour for up to 10 hours. 
  • The employee must frequently bend low and/or reach high, push and/or pull up to 2,000 pounds using mechanical devices.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work independently and with and around others. 
  • There is frequent verbal and face-to-face contact.
  • The employee is frequently required to be available for extended hours.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level is the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Employee will be required to work in an environment in which temperature ranges from sub-0° to 85°.
