Laboratory Technician

Wastewater Analysis

Golden, CO

Shift: 6:00am – 4:00pm, Mon-Fri

*Contract role through December


  • Conduct regulatory compliance sampling for wastewater discharge permit and provide process control monitoring.
  • Incumbent will provide support for training initiatives while FTE on boards.
  • Analyze data from controls, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biological sampling and initiates change to insure continuous, cost effective treatment within state Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
  • Initiates corrective actions or alternative methods and procedures to continue operations if outages, repairs, breakdowns or process control issues in the plant occur.
  • Performs basic and advanced laboratory tests as needed.
  • This position is critical to GBBU operation.
  •  It requires physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of the plant effluent for the Public Drinking Water System as well as brewing water.
  • Knowledge and understanding of water treatment plant operations, chemistry, microbiology and use of sophisticated analytical laboratory equipment is essential.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of rules and regulations associated with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to conduct sampling to insure the water system’s compliance with the Total Coliform Rule as well as routine analysis of the plant and distribution system effluent. The incumbent needs to understand the scientific approach to problem solving as well as how to design and control experiments.
  • The incumbent will be required to interact with Production, Quality, EH&S, Engineering, Maintenance, State and local authorities, independent laboratories, chemical and parts suppliers, and contractors.
  • Must be able to perform routine preventative, corrective and autonomous maintenance and repair of associated equipment. Incumbent must be willing to work a seven day rotating shift operation, including weekends and holidays. Will be required to work inside as well as outside in all seasonal elements.
  • Must be capable of considerable walking and may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Exposure to ambient temperature extremes and active physical work may be required.
  • Work outside in all types of weather conditions may be required.
  • Must be medically certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Controlled exposure to chlorine, sodium carbonate, ozone and other chemicals will occur.


  • Must have in depth knowledge of rules and regulations associated with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Safe Drinking Water
  • Act. Minimum of a Colorado Wastewater “D” certification required. Colorado Wastewater “C” certification preferred. High school diploma or equivalent. Accredited technical training or associate degree in wastewater treatment operations is highly desirable.
