Apex Life Sciences currently has several immediate opportunities for Entry Level Lab Technicians to work with one of our long-standing clients in the Consumer and Material Industry.  The main focus of these roles are on sample preparation, running experiments, calibration and instrument maintenance, and preparing samples for senior scientists and principal engineers.  This organization provides a lot of hands-on experience to their junior technicians, and a large percentage of our Contractors end up becoming permanent employees!

Description: Technician for the Industrial Business Groups Advanced Materials Division located in Maplewood, MN.

Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Contract Technician - AE PGP will provide core product and product development support to the Advanced Materials Ceramics and Additives group. Much of the job will be setting up a new lab to understand our products performance in plastisol including conducting material and product testing against standard test methods.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify existing test methods and/or equipment as needed.
  • Prepare, maintain, and operate equipment for products being evaluated.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with ASTM and automotive specification protocols, documenting and reporting results.
  • Will also need to prioritize and schedule testing with some supervision.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and maintains records.
  • Work closely with engineers in a lab setting to assist in research and development of new products and processes.
  • Fabricate prototypes for evaluations and customer samples.
  • Work closely with support personnel to ensure equipment is operating safety and efficiently.
  • Ensure all regulatory and safety requirements are met.
  • Candidates will work with chemicals and powders in small scale processes as well as cleaning.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher
  • Minimum of two (2) years combined experience working in a lab, manufacturing and/or pilot plant environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two year Technical or Associates Degree
  • Minimum 5+ year experience in testing or a lab environment that includes handling chemicals and materials
  • Experience with plastisol or automotive sealants
  • Intermediate computer knowledge
  • Strong technical and/or mechanical background
  • Self-starter with hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work well both in multi-disciplinary teams and independently
