Job Description: 

Reports directly to the General Manager of the Maryville, TN office and is charged with conducting biological and microbial analyses assigned to the department according to standardized operating procedures.  Must be able to receive samples as needed and interact with customers either in person or over the phone. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with management to carry out strategies to achieve sustainable growth.
  • Must be able to work quickly but accurately to meet short-hold conditions of WET (Whole Effluent Toxicity) samples.
  • Assist with maintaining cultures of both test organisms to ensure a constant supply of organisms at appropriate ages are available for testing.  Must be able to identify low production trends and when organisms should be obtained from a commercial supplier.
  • Must be able to follow methods and standard operating procedures or valid analytical method for all tests performed in the WET and Microbiology labs.
  • Communicate and appropriately document any test anomalies or control failures to the Section Supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure all supplies needed for analytical tests are on hand.  Order as needed.
  • Must ensure laboratory is clear of clutter and presents a clean appearance.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of test dilution water is available for scheduled tests.
  • Perform all required department QC with little supervision from management. To include both WET and Microbiology laboratories.
  • Must have general understanding of test bottle requirements and be able to provide bottles to clients as needed.
  • Interacts with organism commercial suppliers and familiar with company purchase order system.

Essential Functions:

  • Must work closely with others in WET lab to ensure all tests completed daily.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Preferred Skills:

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office-Excel and Word required.
