Apex Life Sciences is looking for qualified individuals for a Lab Tech position for a leading paint and coating manufacturer.

  • Conducts chemical and physical laboratory tests of solid materials, liquids, and gases, and analyzes test data for variety of purposes, such as research, product development, quality control, criminal investigation, and establishing standards, involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences
  • Sets up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control.
  • Tests and analyzes products to determine strength, stability, purity, chemical content, and other characteristics.
  • Documents results of tests and analyses.
  • Using various pieces of lab equipment to test products (paint shaker, colorimeter, viscosity tests, pH, titrations, etc.)
  • Operate laboratory equipment, and physical & analytical instruments for making, preparing, and testing lab samples.
  • Understand more about instruments and how they work.
  • Perform routine analysis according to written test methods and write modifications as needed.
  • Record all laboratory work conducted on projects and experiments in laboratory notebook per policy.
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations and understand basic statistics.
  • Follow policy for labeling all materials with proper identification and expiration.
  • Request needed laboratory supplies and raw materials necessary for projects and experiments.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisor and chemists.
  • Understand customer comments, ideas, problems and goals.
  • Follow laboratory safety practices in accordance with PPG policies and procedures.
  • Issue requests for submitting samples for testing and logout of commercial samples.
  • Complete Peer to Peer Observations in accordance with the annually published schedule.
  • Attend required SHE related training.
  • Participate in periodic comprehensive SHE inspections as required by Department Management.
  • Comply with all SHE policies and procedures.
  • Expertise in the operation and maintenance of paint testing equipment such as Q-Fogs, QCT, Cathodic Disbondment, Taber Abrasion and QUV’s.
  • Experience performing quality control tests such as viscosity, percent chlorides, amine values, weight and volume solids etc.
  • Experience in calibration of test equipment for ISO certification.
  • Experience in handling/decontamination of hazardous waste materials and hazardous waste cleanup.
  • Experience in spray airless/Air assisted spray equipment
  • Experience in performance evaluation of coatings per ASTM test methods
  • May require wearing a respirator at some points
