Job Description


The Lab Technician’s primary focus will be on adhering to safe working practices while fulfilling the daily role of providing technical support which will facilitate efficient and effective laboratory functionality.

The ideal candidate will be a logical thinker and detail oriented.  Performance of tests requires exactness, dexterity and the ability to recognize a false result.  The candidate may be required to spend extended periods standing. Once fully trained the Lab Technician will travel up to 25% of the time.

Primary Duties

  • Safety:
  • Follow laboratory and other company safety procedures including the constant proper use of appropriate PPE
  • Practice “good housekeeping”

  • Analysis:
  • Perform analyses both in the lab and occasionally in the field as required
  • Be responsible for data quality and method integrity
  • Maintain a working knowledge/understanding of the operation of and the computer programs associated with, all lab instrumentation
  • Resolve problems by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps

  • Documentation:
  • Maintain the integrity of the Sample Retention Library
  • Keep a daily log and retain other lab records as instructed
  • Prepare in a timely manner written documents as required to report test results
  • Maintain equipment record books

  • Equipment/Supplies
  • Assist in tracking and maintaining the inventory of lab supplies
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns and performing preventative maintenance

  • People:
  • Take pleasure in working with customers, chemists, engineers, technicians, sales, production, and management
  • Be flexible and open to change on short notice
  • Perform the required duties under stressful conditions
  • Stay motivated and perform duties with limited supervision
  • Strive to comprehend and carry out detailed instructions

  Minimum qualifications:

  • Educational requirements are dependent upon experience  
  • Demonstrated understanding of mathematics up to and including algebra 
  • Ability and interest to learn new technologies and methods
  • Ability and interest to learn how to use computerized analytical instruments
  • The ability to use Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Willing to work extra hours as required
  • Willing to work safely and follow the lab procedures
  • Team player

Preferred qualifications:

  • BS or AAS in Chemistry or related field 
  • 2-4 years Chemistry Lab experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of wet chemistry and titrations including Mettler autotitrators required.  
  • Demonstrated competence with Dionex ion chromatography needed
  • Knowledge of Agilent GC systems and Waters HPLC desired. 
  • A thorough understanding of acid-base chemistry including both strong and weak acids and bases. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemical equilibrium.
  • Ability to understand, trouble-shoot, and repair mechanical and electronic apparatus a plus.  

This position will work Monday - Friday during the day
