  1. Summary of Position: Responsible for the coordination of daily laboratory operations and allocation of resources to ensure that all laboratory objectives are met.  Oversees the overall laboratory operations under the guidance of the General Manager.

  1. Direct Supervisor (Reports to): General Manager

  1.  Primary Responsibilities:
    1. Ensuring that on-time commitments, quality requirements, safety requirements and all reporting requirements are met by the laboratory. 
    2. Coordinating and facilitating communications across the laboratory.
    3. Focal point for making decisions in cooperation with other managers to ensure that daily, dynamic commitments are met.
    4. Identifying production standards and implementing positive changes to continually improve the laboratory.
    5. Ensuring proper utilization of instrumentation and systems and maximizing ‘up time’ of equipment.
    6. Responsible for meeting production and expense targets across the entire laboratory.
    7. Assisting in preparation of capital budget, including review of revenue, justification of capital expenditures, and providing expense targets.
    8. Coordinating production-oriented tasks and projects.
    9. Promoting cooperation and teamwork among staff.
    10. Following policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    11. Other duties as assigned.

  1.   Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     1. Education and/or Experience: BA/BS in chemistry or related science with 7 or more years of related experience including 3 plus years of management experience.
    2. Language Skills: Must have the ability to effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or board of directors both verbally and in writing.  Communicate effectively with laboratory management and project management.
    3. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    4. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

  1.    Managerial Responsibilities
    1. Responsible for making daily resource allocation decisions (flexible staffing model).
    2. Responsible for coordinating training needs of laboratory staff with applicable LMS Administrator.
    3. Responsible for ensuring that proper guidance and performance feedback is given to every individual in the laboratory and that communication channels are open throughout the laboratory.

  1.  Responsibilities with respect to Planning of Tests and Evaluation of Results
    1. Responsible for scheduling or planning sample preparation and/or analysis based on available information regarding due dates and hold times.
    2. Responsible for evaluating primary analyses including sample results and quality control results. 
    3. Responsible for evaluating other analyst’s work (peer review) as needed, including sample results and quality control results.

    1. Responsible for reporting opinions and interpretations for their specific functions via footnotes/qualifiers in LIMS.
