Job Title:  Jr Reaction Savory Flavorist

Job Description/Major Roles and Responsibilities:

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

This position will require an working knowledge of Creative and Reaction flavors, for savory and snack food systems.  

  • Develop flavor formulations for both savory topnotes and reaction flavor chemistry.
  • Ability to manage and utilize specific strengths from members of other technical and cross functional teams to maintain productivity in the lab in the absence of management. 
  • Prioritize projects, shift the project focus when the workload requires and when specific technical capabilities are required.
  • Ability to work well with cross functional teams and build respect from technical peers.
  • Critical to this position exceptional organizational skills and communication with internal and external customers
  • Create and maintain updated accurate records for certifications and required documents, including nutritional and product information sheets

Proactive product development will also be a key responsibility for this position. 

  • Utilization of market information gleaned through interaction with the Marketing Information Specialist and/or other sources will be used to identify areas where we, as a company can proactively engage our customers.
  • Have knowledge of meat and savory flavor ingredients and the ability to identify and track new ingredients as they are introduced to the industry

General responsibilities

  • The position will require an understanding of flavor and anti-oxidant ingredient use rates as well as understand and communicate with Regulatory about USDA and natural flavors for all flavor formats (liquid/paste/spray drying)
  • The ability to provide solutions with flavors using anti-oxidants, colors, health ingred food products as appropriate
  • Knowledge of pilot plant equipment to include, reaction kettles, retort, spray dryer are also desirable in this role.  
  • Computer skills for communication and formulation
  • It will be a requirement for this position to stay apprised of new ingredient technologies which may become available through suppliers.  This will be accomplished through reading periodical professional publications, active involvement in local and national meetings when possible and deemed necessary by management, and also through professional networking within the industry.  It will then be the responsibility of this role to be able to apply the new technology in a meaningful manner and demonstrate its function to professional peers across the USA teams, as well as to customers.

Decision making Responsibilities/Authority

  • Full involvement & participation and compliance with the company safety rules, regulations and procedures will be necessary
  • Create prototypes and flavor blends for application with minimal regulatory input but need to understand the global requirements.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and prioritize projects
  • Management of project and sales team members to fully understand the objectives and timelines

Education and Experience

  • Flavor chemist Apprentice Certification
  • BA/BS degree, science or food technology and 5-8 years experience
  • MS degree, science or food technology and 4 years experience

Experience in ingredient, flavor and food industry
