Job Description

We are seeking a Junior Process Engineer to join a core  team that assists shift leadership and engineers in changing the world one package at a time.  The incumbent has a hands-on role in guiding this process to improve quality and capability while also gaining hands-on experience with equipment operation and leadership role. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager, and is based in Richmond, VA. Compensation and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience level.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Demonstrate proper safety leadership and guidance while supporting 24/7 production of extruding and converting operations and leading a rotating shift in the absence of the Production Supervisor.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and manage production quality and operating conditions to maintain and improve KPIs.
  • Assist the Manufacturing Manager, Manufacturing Assistant Manager and maintenance as required for complex or rapid diagnosis and repair of issues.
  • Create standards, develop procedures and train appropriate personnel.
  • Operate machines as needed in absence of machine operators, or for product and standards development.
  • Analyze the process and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Lead improvement projects and implementation of machine or process upgrades such as reliability, safety improvements and quality development.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 6 months of manufacturing or industrial research experience. Co-op or internships will apply.

Education and Certifications: 

  • 4 year college education for BS or B-Eng (mechanical, industrial, chemical, or materials).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of safe operation of ClimaCell equipment rotating and high-speed machinery.
  • Basic knowledge of safety rules including lockout/tagout.
  • Knowledge of product specifications.
  • Knowledge of ClimaCell process flow from raw materials to finished goods.
  • Knowledge of machine functionality and standard operating conditions.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts plus support on-call as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others and as part of a team including across functional areas such as R&D, sales, and operations.
  • Previous training & experience in structured problem solving preferred such as LEAN or Six Sigma.
  • Ability to wear PPE (for example, safety glasses, ears plugs, closed toed shoes, respirator and overalls) for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
