Instrumentation & Control Engineer - Chemicals

Apex Life Sciences is searching for an Instrumentation & Control Engineer for a contract in Toronto, ON. Our client is a chemical manufacturer that supplies the oil and gas industry. This is a full-time contract that is 1 year in length with the potential for permanent hire. Candidates experienced with SCADA, automation and process controls are desired. Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement: automation, instrumentation, process control, SCADA and AIDC systems
  • Preparation of specifications and drawings for automation, instrumentation, process control, SCASA and AIDC systems
  • Preparation of specifications and designs complying with applicable codes and accepted engineering standards
  • Solving automation problems involving process and worker safety
  • Working though plant process issues resulting in poor product quality or unnecessary costs
  • Application of automation systems to existing manual operations
  • Troubleshooting and debottlenecking of plant processes
  • Assessment and selection of new automation and process control technologies
  • Provide recommendations for the design and implementation of I&C systems and process control strategies

Required Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of experience in an Instrumentation & Controls Engineering role, SCADA Engineer role or related Engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specializing in Electrical, Electronics or Control Systems
  • P.Eng is an asset
  • Strong background in the design of instrumentation and control systems
  • Broad application knowledge of SCADA, HMI, PLC, AIDC and closed loop controls
  • Proficiency with PLC systems and languages (Siemens, AB, Omron, GE)
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives, RFID and bar coding traceability applications
  • Database experience with MS Access and SQL
  • Strong communication skills, excellent problem solving skills
