Position: Histotechnologist

Location: Indianapolis, IN.

Hours: 1st shift (Monday - Friday)


Apex Life Sciences is searching for a Histotechnologist. This position is a 1st shift Direct Hire opportunity for a company in the Pharmaceutical industry. This position requires at least one year experience in FFPE and frozen tissue block sectioning, HT or HTL and ASCP Certification.   • The Histotechnologist will receive, inspect and validated incoming samples.
  • Additional Responsibilities Include:
  • Scan samples into databases
  • Label and route specimens to the correct department or second laboratory
  • Sample pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic processing
  • Tissue slide staining both automated platforms and manual for routine and special stains, and bone decalcification
  • Maintain accurate paper work and audit trail for samples

Education Requirements

Associate’s degree in medical laboratory testing.


Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, Chemical, Physical or Biological Science from an accredited college or university and one year training and/or experience in the specialty in which testing is to be performed. Training should be equivalent to that received in a school of Medical Technology.


Completion of an Accredited Clinical Laboratory Training Program or 1 year documented laboratory training or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed (along with 90 semester hours from an accredited institution) that include: 16 hours of biology pertinent to the medical sciences and 16 hours of chemistry with 6 hours of Inorganic Chemistry and 3 hours of math.


  • Must hold a current Histotechnologist licence and be qualitifed by completion of a certified histotechnologist program (HT or HTL)
  • ASCP Certification is also required
  • The ideal candidate should have at least 8 months experience in FFPE and frozen tissue block sectioning, wet tissue processing, minor tissue grossing
  • Need to have a good working knowledge of tissue orientation for embedding of a variety of tissue types.
  • Flexibility on duties and hours. Saturday rotation required
