Our client, a leader in the nutraceutical products space, is seeking a Formulator to develop formulations for a variety of dosage and delivery forms. This position is DIRECT HIRE and comes with competitive salary and benefits package.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Formulations:

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge and practical experience with product/process development, processing laboratory techniques and regulatory requirements, and a firm foundation in chemistry, mathematics, pharmaceutics and/or food science.
  • Develop and review proposed formulas and ingredients, providing substantiation for structure-function claims, nutritional, and technical information as required.
  • Review formulas and ingredients for regulatory compliance of registration documents and labeling as they relate to nutritional and supplement facts panel information.
  • Prepare, review, monitor, evaluate, and summarize stability programs for products.
  • Conceive and develop formulas suitable for commercialization. Design and conduct appropriate experiments appropriate for the laboratory and manufacturing equipment.
  • Train others in developing new products.
  • Provide technical and scientific input, support and assistance to other technical disciplines.
  • Maintain accurate records of all development projects. Prepares technical documents relevant to area of responsibility such as SOP's, electronic master batch records, raw material and product specifications, technical reports, label copies, product justifications, and technology transfer documentations.
  • Ensure efficient operations in assigned project areas in accordance with company requirements, SOP's and GMP's.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills as well as effective organizational and supervisory skills and the ability to make presentations and recommendations in the area of responsibility.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in a cross functional team environment and have the ability to statistically analyze data.
  • Must have computer literacy, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Must have sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Take leading role for projects as assigned.
  • Support other projects within the formulation team.

Raw Materials:

  • Responsible for the sourcing and qualification of new raw materials.
  • Assist Purchasing and Quality with the sourcing of replacement raw materials.
  • Evaluate the suppliers on existing raw material specifications to determine their capabilities of providing replacement and/or new ingredients.
  • Coordinate specification development in conjunction with Quality and Analytical Laboratory.
  • Provide on-going internal and external technical support to ensure that production needs are met and customer requests are satisfied.
  • Manage and prioritize qualification of new, existing, and replacement raw materials.
  • In charge of ongoing specification updates and compliance updates, due to regulatory or internal policy changes.
  • Manage and troubleshoot raw materials related projects by understanding the potential ramifications caused by raw material and specification changes, such that appropriate actions are taken.
  • Build strategic relationships and maintain effective communications with vendors.
  • Support Quality in the vendor qualification process.
  • Evaluate market and supplier information regarding the potential impact of material changes in a global economy. Provide this feedback to Purchasing, such that the client can maintain a consistent supply of our raw materials, as well as avoid market price fluctuations.
  • Price and review new quotes.

Other Duties

  • Maintain awareness of current developments within the functional discipline.
  • Develop a network of outside contacts such as vendors, consultants, educators, and attend appropriate continuing education courses.
  • Interface with other operating units within and outside the department. Present ideas and suggestions for new products, product or process improvements, and improvements to laboratory operations.

Skills / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Education: Requires a four year college or university degree or its equivalent in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Requires a minimum of four years industry formulation development experience, with two years of related experience.
