Job Description

Clinical Laboratory Scientist CGMBS

The CLS will be expected to perform highly complex clinical testing, including both machine and manual assays, of bodily fluids and tissue independently. Clinical test results are used directly to inform care decisions, with errors potentially leading to adverse events.  Additional key duties of the position include specialization in the immunologic area of the laboratory: (PCR/MFIA/ELISA) with some overlap in hematology and chemistry sections of the clinical lab.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Life Science
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience, 3 years in a clinical lab setting desired
  • 12 month internship in medical technology or certification as technologist/specialist by professional board organization (e.g., ASHI, AABB, ASCP).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of clinical sample testing in specific area(s) of expertise.
  • Understanding of complex testing processes and underlying biology of the system.
  • Ability to interpret and synthesize results from a wide variety of tests correctly and quickly.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory information system/database and operation, or ability to learn system quickly.
  • Must be capable of working in a busy, often crowded, and high pressure environment and under tight time constraints
  • Required to work with human and animal blood and specimens; potential exists for exposure to blood borne pathogens by splash or spill.
  • Required to work with radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers and allergens/chemicals.
  • May be 'on call' or work occasional extended hours.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PCR and immunologic assays (ELISA, MFIA) desired

Physical Requirements:

  • Possess full color vision
  • Constantly lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequently stand/walk, use a computer, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation
  • Occasionally writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, operate a manual pipette, operate foot and/or hand controls.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, or scaffolds), twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-40 pounds
