Lab Technician II

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Laboratory Technician II position is an entry level position whose major purpose is to support the North Haven Laboratory Services Microbiology Group. This includes but is not limited to: monitoring and maintaining sterile laboratory supplies, laboratory maintenance, glassware and instrument cleaning via laboratory dishwasher. The Laboratory Technician II will also operate laboratory equipment, such as the autoclave and depyrogenating oven. This position may also perform the following types of testing: endotoxin, microbial counts, and total organic carbon (TOC). The North Haven Laboratory Services Department located in Connecticut directly supports manufacturing locations worldwide. The Laboratory Technician II works both individually and as part of a team. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
1. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and become qualified to perform laboratory tasks through on the job training from team leader. 
2. Perform endotoxin testing on product by extracting samples and plating extracts in microwell plate for processing in absorbance reader. 
3. Collect water samples from manufacturing areas and test water for endotoxin, TOC, and microbial counts. 
4. Perform washroom duties, which entail emptying the contents of glassware, blenders, etc. of contents and to wash them via laboratory dishwasher. 
5. Daily maintenance of laboratory organization and cleaning in the wash room, stock room, and other laboratory areas. 
6. Assist with inventory of depyrogenated supplies by wrapping instruments and other items associated to bacterial endotoxin testing. 
7. Utilize the depyrogenating oven, autoclaves, and other equipment in the laboratory for the sterilization of instruments, glassware, gowns, and microbiological trash. 
8. Provide assistance to the Senior Microbiologist and other Microbiologists as needed. 

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
1. Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Education: High school diploma required. 
Experience: Minimum 2 years of previous wet lab work experience required. 
Skills/Qualifications: Proficiency with aseptic technique and pipetting. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required. 
Skills/Competencies: Listening, Demonstrated Communication Skills (both written and verbal), Organization, Time Management, Planning Skills, Reliable and Responsible, Capable of Independently Working.
