Job Description


This individual will perform a variety of chemical, bacteriological and physical analysis of water using a variety of instruments, equipment, and techniques to assure compliance with water quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality control tests. Test quality of materials or finished products

  • Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions when needed.

  • Prepare test solutions, compounds or reagents to conduct tests – prepare products for testing

  • Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, or chemical catalysts for quantitative or qualitative analysis

  • Evaluate laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with standards

  • Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency

  • Confer with Developmental Chemists and Engineers to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results or develop nonstandard test. Collaborate on research activities with technical specialists

  • Develop, improve, or customize products, equipment, formulas, processes or analytical methods.  

  • Study effects of various methods of processing, preserving or packaging on composition or properties

  • Ability to use pH meters, conductivity meters and spectrophotometers

Other Duties

  • Compile and Maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.

  • Participate as a key team player by supporting operations as needed

  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards


  • Equivalent to the completion of two (2) years of course work from an accredited college or university in a science major, preferably in chemistry or related field

  • Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates attainment of the required knowledge and ability to perform the required work typically:
    Principles of chemistry, biology, microbiology and related sciences;
    Water treatment and wastewater treatment processes;
    Procedures and materials used in chemical, biochemical and bacteriological tests and analysis;
    Safe handling of toxic and otherwise dangerous materials;
    Laboratory techniques pertaining to safety equipment and materials care and maintenance;
    Basic algebra and principles of data analysis.
