Job Description




SUMMARY

Assists with preparation of autoimmune diagnostic Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) slide, control and conjugate products in accordance with established procedures. Major duties include preparation activities for IFA controls and conjugates and the growth of cloned antigens in insect cells.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the technical activities associated with the manufacture of IFA slide products in accordance with written instructions and schedules.
  • Maintains, grows, harvests and/or purifies HEp-2, rat intestinal, Crithidia, Neutrophil and other cell types according to established procedures.
  • Inspects IFA slide products for acceptability according to written Manufacturing Documents.
  • Participates in the evaluation of raw materials, in-process cell suspensions and fixed slides associated with IFA slide products.
  • Maintains detailed Device History Records, laboratory notebooks and/or any associated documentation for all manufacturing, evaluation and development activities in accordance with Quality Systems Regulations (QSRs).
  • Participates in the generation and implementation of Product Change Requests (PCRs) for manufacturing documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as directed by supervisor.
  • Prepares, calibrates, operates and cleans equipment used in the growth of cells and the manufacture of IFA cell culture slide products according to SOPs.
  • Participates in the investigation, analysis and corrective actions for IFA product performance or manufacturing problems in conjunction with supervisor and the assistance of others.
  • Informs supervisor of laboratory equipment needs and other supplies required to avoid interruptions in production schedules. Informs supervisor of broken or deteriorating equipment.
  • Participates in tasks required to improve product performance/quality and/or process efficiency for IFA slide products as requested by supervisor.
  • Participates in training employees on current and new methods, techniques, instruments and policies pertaining to the manufacturing and development of IFA slide products as assigned by supervisor or group leader.
  • Maintains work area and laboratory in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Follows established safety and environmental procedures. Reports all safety hazards immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree B.A. or B.S. or equivalent in the biological or related sciences with 1-2 years of laboratory experience
  • Working knowledge and/or laboratory skills in the area of solution preparation, immunochemistry conjugation techniques, computer operation procedures and laboratory equipment operation
  • Knowledge of QSR and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) systems as they apply to diagnostics manufacturing
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as concentrations, dilutions, proportions, percentages, volumes and common laboratory equations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as device history records, operating and maintenance instructions, scientific journal articles, safety rules and SOPs
  • Ability to write reports, SOPs, manufacturing documents, laboratory notebook entries and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively with co-workers and other employees of the organization
