Apex Life Sciences in looking for a Chemist II in the Ankeny, IA area who is excited to learn and grow with a great company. 

Responsible to: Laboratory Manager

Shift: 7 - 3:30 pm   M -- F

Education and Experience Required:

  • B.S. in Chemistry or a closely related field with 2-3 years of analytical lab experience. 
  • Lab or coursework experience with instrumentation such as gas chromatographs, atomic adsorption, UV-Vis spectrometers, and N-combustion units.
  • A demonstrated ability to focus on and manage detailed methodologies in a multitasking environment.
  • A working knowledge of and experience using MS Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. All responsibilities associated with Chemist I position as needed. 
  2. Gain an understanding of the chemistry governing all methodology and instrumentation employed by DAL and work in those areas as needed.
  3. Maintain, operate, and validate the ECD and FID Gas Chromatographs, and nitrogen combustion instrument as well as thoroughly understand the functionality of the equipment.
  4. Participate in peer review of laboratory data before release.
  5. Report accurate results for all testing within methodology and equipment tolerances.
  6. Follow all of the laboratory’s health and safety rules.
  7. Keep work area clean and organized.
  8. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).  Review, and update SOPs as needed, submitting any changes to Laboratory Manager for approval.
  9. Create and update spreadsheets dealing with an in-house Descriptive Sampling Program on a timely basis.
  10. Assist with technical projects as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
  11. Any other duties assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
