Job Description

Our client, an autoimmune disease diagnostics company is seeking a Buyer II to join their team. This is a DIRECT HIRE position.

Coordinates the purchase of assigned materials, service and other supplies in a Multiplan environment. Monitors inventory levels and ensures the coverage of open orders. Demonstrates complete ownership for all assigned product lines including; new products, supplier negotiations, inventory levels and MRB disposition.  
Performs duties in compliance with applicable FDA, GMP and state regulations as well as standards including, but not limited to ISO 13485.

Key Accountabilities

  • Orders supplies, services and inventory items according to established procedures.
  • Follows-up on open purchase orders to ensure timely delivery. Expedites orders, as needed to meet departmental and production requirements. Alerts appropriate personnel of delivery delays.
  • Utilizes the MRP system and available reports to plan and order raw materials as needed to ensure there are no production delays due to material shortages.
  • Negotiates the best price, delivery and expiration date (when applicable) from vendors.
  • Selects, develops and manages supply base for production raw materials, components, expense items and services by preparing RFQ’s for multi-year full production quantities.
  • Leads yearly cost reductions activities.
  • Assists in identifying back-up vendors for critical raw materials and participates, as needed, in the activities required to qualify the vendor and/or raw materials. This includes, but is not limited to obtaining samples of materials for testing and qualification.
  • Conducts vendor searches to locate unusual or difficult to find items and best cost vs. quantity (when appropriate).
  • Maintains up to date supply base information in our in-house data base and monitors purchase price variances
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve procurement, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service to internal and external end users.
  • Reviews lead times assigned to components and supplies to ensure required materials are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Periodically reviews and makes recommendations for adjustments to reorder points and order quantities.
  • Assists in the review of Product Change Requests (PCRs) for changes to raw materials or components to determine their effect on outstanding purchase orders.
  • Assists Quality Assurance (QA) Department in resolving non-conforming raw material issues with vendors. Follows-up with vendors to arrange return and replacement of non-conforming materials.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or (B.S.), with 4+ years of purchasing and/or production planning experience.
  • In some instances, exceptions to the years of experience can be made based on management discretion.
  • Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree. Must possess strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience using SAP based ERP purchasing module is desirable.
