Associate Food Technologist

Job Description:

The Associate Food Technologist is responsible for assisting Senior R&D staff with formulating new products, doing product maintenance, product cost reduction and product improvements.  This is accomplished by working under the direction of more senior R&D Staff on assigned tasks in a food lab setting. The Associate Food Technologist carries out the preparation of new product prototypes, line extensions, and product improvement and shipment of prototypes to fulfill sample request. This role is also responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and inventory, insures GMPs are observed, conducting routine lab activities/product testing with direction.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with all product development, product maintenance, cost reduction, and product improvements.
  • Routine Lab processes such as weighing ingredients, sample evaluation, maintaining ingredient inventory, maintaining lab and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Practice GMPs and maintain a sanitary environment for production of food products.
  • Accurately prepare and label product samples.
  • Pack, ship and deliver tracking information for customer shipments, fulfilling sample requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain and manager ingredient and packaging inventory to insure the quality of sales and customer samples.
  • Maintain accurate records including lot code documentation on recipe sheets and sample retains.
  • Engage with senior R&D Staff, plant personnel, marketing, sales and procurement in a proactive way to insure clarity on sample requests and timeliness of re-supply requests.

Skills, Experience, and Education Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be proactive an dtake initiative.
  • Understanding of food systems an dGMPs.
  • Fully competent in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn and utilize inventory management software.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Math skills sufficient to:
    • Calculate Batch Formulas based on percentages
    • Scale up batches and calculate ingredient requirements
    • Perform basic statistics calculations such as averages, means, and standard deviations
    • Utilize spreadsheets with embedded mathematical formulas

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum Associate Degree in Science field, preferred Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Technology.

Experience Requirements:

  • Associate Degree with 3-5 years’ experience in an R&D Setting.

Physical Activity/Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in a kitchen, lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to easily lift 25 lbs several times per day.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time in a kitchen, laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Will be required to work with peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, soy, wheat and other allergens not listed.
