Job Description

Apex Life Sciences is recruiting for an Analytical/ Research Chemist north of Pittsburgh. This position is responsible for product support on customer sites. Majority of travel will be local customers. Other responsibilities include QC of materials coming in. Future responsibilities could include product formulation, product improvement, testing, interpretation of results, reporting of findings and recommendations to Management.


  • Laboratory testing
    • Sample collection
    • Determine Ion content
    • pH tests
    • Using a centrifuge for oil concentration and stability testing
    • Recording data
    • Communicating test results
  • Develop and/or improve products to meet customer and market needs.
  • Assist in conducting exploratory and applied research to develop commercial products.
  • Support corporate and departmental business goals and objectives.
  • Prepare samples for customer evaluations.
  • Learn new topics and techniques through internal and external training.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from an accredited University
    • – preferably with a focus on lubricants or metal working Chemistry
  • Experience with the following preferred:
    • Particle size analysis
    • Particle count
    • Viscosity testing
  • Understanding of safe laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with various coating binder chemistry formulations and end-use application and performance testing.

Required skills:

  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Ability to effectively multitask and manage projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to achieve goals.
  • Compliance with laboratory Health, Safety and Environmental rules and regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Basic Computer skills.
