Entry Level Analytical Lab Technician (Chemistry, R&D)

Daily Responsibilities

  • Work in the analytical lab to perform routine tests on zeolites and FCC catalysts. 
  • Test methods include X-ray diffractometry, X-ray florescence, N2 absorbtion porosimetry, Thermal Program Desorption and others. 
  • Carry out experiments in the R&D lab for modification of zeolites on the 10 to 100 g scale.
  • Assist in the scale-up of R&D lab results to the pilot plant scale of 1 to 10 kg
  • Work safely and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Keep clear and detailed notebook records of the lab work performed.
  • Communicate with the project leader and other co-workers effectively. 
  • Partner with project leaders by way of assisting with data interpretation, making observations of experimental behavior, and understanding key issues of the R&D program.

Desired qualifications:

  • Proven ability to work safely in a chemical laboratory environment. Familiarity with basic chem. lab operations including operation of mixers, balances, glassware, etc.
  • Attention to detail and exceptional record keeping skills.
  • Ability to perform well when given multiple tasks as well as routine tasks.
  • Ability to follow both written Standard Operating Procedures as well as verbal instructions.
  • Good time management skills.
  • A minimum of 1-3 yrs of relevant work experience in lab operations, working with equipment used in food or powders manufacturing such as:  spray dryers, high temperature furnaces, mixers, mills, and vacuum filters. 
  • Experience in industrial research, preferably working in chemical laboratory.
  • Helpful to have experience with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical components on analytical equipment.
  • Experience working with high pressure gas cylinders, CGA fittings, valves, and regulators.
  • Good computer and communication skills.
