Job Description

Credit Associate

Albany, NY

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm

  • Start time can be flexible
  • Minimal OT expected, less than 2 hours a week, if at all.

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6 months, possible extension to 1 year dependent on work needs.


  • Office, 13-14 people in the office, one is a permanent employee who has been there for 25 years, some customer service people, two contractors.
  • Not a super “bubbly” environment, looking for a professional candidate.

Job Description:

65% Decision Making and Problem Solving:

  • Actively manage customer portfolio risk for over limit and past due accounts.
  • Communicate issues appropriately and timely to credit management.
  • Resolve customer issues and recommend decisions to put customers on credit hold to credit management.
  • Perform limited aspects of underwriting and risk mitigation process & procedure.
  • Direct involvement with select areas of daily cash application processing.
  • Monitor new and existing customer’s AR to mitigate bad debt risk.
  • Undertake collection strategy for assigned customer base.

20% Communication and Reporting:

  • Provide timely and informative AR analysis to credit management (i.e. Assist with bad debt process, AR agings, metrics and special reporting projects).

10% Process Improvement:

  • Help drive continuous improvement in systems, processes and procedures

5% Collaboration:

  • Collaborate w/ credit team on various credit initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Business, Finance or Accounting or related field; or 2 years of experience as a Credit Associate or Representative in lieu of a degree.
  • Working knowledge of credit, collection, bankruptcy laws, UCC-1 rules, collection agencies and attorneys
  • Understanding of financial statement analysis and risk assessment
  • Successful interaction and negotiation with customers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills/ ability to communicate effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc) (Please send Excel test scores)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Credit & collection system experience
  • Credit for Agriculture sector/Farm Credit
