Apex Life Sciences is currently seeking an Environmental Staff Scientist for an immediately available opportunity! 

The chosen candidate will work hand in hand with company Project Managers to complete various environmental reports and plans for submittal to government agencies.  These reports may include: Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure reports, as well as State Source Reduction Strategy and State Chemical Analysis of Residual Waste plans.   The chosen candidate will also be responsible for coordinating field activities and the presentation of data using geographic systems applications.  Additional projects may include site characterization and site remediation reports, as well as involvement with site assessments and compliance audits.  Interested applicants must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, with a strong background in report writing, client communication and data evaluation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work plans and reports for site characterization, environmental site assessment (ESA) and remediation activities
  • Perform Phase I and II ESAs
  • Perform quality control review of plans and reports
  • Prepare Site Characterization Reports, Remedial Action Progress Reports, Remedial Action Plans, Remedial Investigation Reports, and Final Reports for Pennsylvania Act 2 projects. 
  • Assist with all phases of site characterization and remediation activities at retail petroleum UST, dry cleaner, and industrial sites
  • Request quotes from subcontractors, and evaluate proposals
  • Prepare project budgets and assist senior staff in tracking budgets
  • UST closure oversight
  • Monitoring well abandonment
  • Perform Phase I/ Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
  • Data entry using GIS, and preparation of figures and tables using ACAD and Excel
  • Conduct human health risk assessments
  • Data entry using GIS
  • Prepare proposals for environmental services

Requirements:

  • 40 hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training is required. Training will be provided, if necessary
  • Desired Education: 4-year degree in Environmental Science or similar field of study preferred
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an environmental technician or similar role performing soil, vapor and groundwater sampling, and monitoring well installation activities
  • A minimum of two years of experience preparing environmental plans and reports, including Remedial Action Progress Reports, Site Characterization Reports, and Remedial Action Plans for Pennsylvania Chapter 245 sites

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Pennsylvania Act 2 Land Recycling Program
